Project Description

Background

The ENGAGE project motivation stands in the shared awareness among the consortium that schools are facing a very relevant and challenging issue, linked to the effects of student disengagement and implicit school dropout at lower secondary school. The main identified causes of the phenomenon are insufficient personalization and consideration of emotional needs, inadequate support systems, relevance of the educational offer, high-stakes testing pressure, mismatched learning styles, social isolation, socioeconomic disparities etc.

Aims

The ENGAGE project aims to:

  • Provide school communities with the necessary awareness and competencies for the identification of early signs of student disengagement and implicit school dropout
  • Provide school communities with strategies to address disengagement and implicit school dropout, from three different perspectives: teachers, families, school counsellors
  • Promotion of the Service Learning approach as a strategy to create a supportive learning environment that prevents students from implicit school dropout

Target Groups

The target groups involved in the project are:

  • Lower secondary school teachers
  • School counsellors and specialists
  • Decision makers
  • Students’ families

Activities

The ENGAGE will involve the school communities in:

  • Developing and producing case studies for identifying early signs of student disengagement and implicit school dropout and tailoring prevention strategies
  • Implementing blended learning-based training programs addressed to teachers, counsellors and students' parents
  • Engaging school teachers and leaders in developing guidelines for implementing Service Learning initiatives to create a more engaging and supportive learning environment and Results

Results

The ENGAGE project will provide school communities with:

  • A collection of case studies analysing early signs of implicit school dropout and operative strategies to prevent the worsening of the situation
  • Three training packages on how to prevent implicit school dropout, from three different perspectives: teachers, families, school counsellors
  • A set of operative guidelines on how to implement the Service Learning approach at school
